EV’s do not have good range and other myths that are not true.

Electric Vehicles are all the rage now and you hear about them almost every day. But what is the EV revolution all about? Is it hype or is there any substance to it.

Electric Vehicles have been around for a long time, however, with the recent push towards environmentally friendly transportation, EV’s have been found to be a great replacement for traditional ICE vehicles.

But what about the fact that EV’s have very low driving range and are not good for long distance traveling. It is true at one point in time, EV’s had very low range and was not a viable alternative to gas vehicles. However, that has changed with research and development and the new and improved models of EV’s launched recently have doubled or tripled their original driving range.

Driving Range

People keep thinking about driving range when they think of Electric Vehicles, since EV’s take some time to recharge and charging points are not yet as common as gas stations, it is natural to think about what may happen if the car battery runs out of power in the middle of nowhere.

While this is still a valid concern with today’s EV’s, we are now a lot better off when it comes to range and charging point infrastructure than five or ten years ago. The Mazda Mx-30 is a standard EV with a range of about 100 miles. While this is significantly lower than the range provided by any conventional gasoline powered car, it is good enough for most people who do some city driving during the week.

A top model Tesla Model S has a EPA range of almost 348 miles which can provide people with enough room to do long distance driving if they prepare in advance.

Charging Time

Another big thing about Electric Vehicles is the charging time. People are afraid that if they do need to charge their EV’s for urgent work, they may not have enough time to charge their vehicle. While it is true that charging electric vehicles require more time to charge than it would take for a conventional gas powered car to be refueled.

However, with modern technology and more development in the pipeline this has continued to change. With Tesla superchargers, the car can be recharged for a driving distance of 200 miles in 15 mins

Of course faster charging times come with a cost and the Tesla Model S starts at a price range of $106,990 which is quite pricey. But with so many companies offering discounts as well as tax benefits provided by the Govt. A mid range electric vehicle should be within reach of many car buyers who are looking to switch to an environmentally friendly vehicle.

So what are you waiting for! Getting an EV instead of your gas powered car can save you money and help save the environment.
